A month ago I went on a little well-needed vacation. It was just for 3 nights. But it was magic and something I really needed.
I had planned it so that I left from work Thursday evening and then drove for 3 hours until I reached Plaka. A small fishing village on the Eastern part of Crete.
I had already booked 3 nights in Stella Mare Appartments: https://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/stella-mare-apartments.en-gb.html?aid=397646;label=yho748jc-1FCAEoggI46AdIM1gDaFyIAQGYAQm4AQ7IAQzYAQHoAQH4AQyIAgGoAgO4Au_LyOwFwAIB;sid=bbd4a0ac325fb1f4081e281d197fedd7;dist=0;group_adults=2;group_children=0;hapos=1;hpos=1;no_rooms=1;room1=A%2CA;sb_price_type=total;sr_order=distance_from_search;srepoch=1569859080;srpvid=50e57044e4ba0009;type=total;ucfs=1&#hotelTmpl
It’s a simple 2 star hotel. But it worked for me. I was greeted when I arrived by Stella herself and she quickly showed me to my apartment. A funny little thing was that there were no numbers on the doors. Instead the rooms had names.
One of the reasons for me to choose Plaka as my destination was that I wanted to visit Spinalonga. But also because I wanted complete peace and quiet. If it was only for Spinalonga I could have chosen the more busy town of Elounda. But no, I really just needed to get away.
The first evening I arrived around 22.00 and after a long day I was tired and just went to bed. So that I could get up and explore my surroundings early the next morning.
